2006 Honda Odyssey
In the world of minivans, the Honda Odyssey stands out as a performance
vehicle with the uncompromising sensibility and versatility that a van
offers. Not only is it sophisticated, stylish, and contemporary, it sports
class-leading levels of safety and luxury throughout. The Odyssey has
been the recipient of a myriad of top industry awards for best-in-class.
Available Models
The Honda Odyssey Minivan is available in two models - the
Odyssey base model and the Odyssey EX. In addition to the impressive host
of comforts, conveniences, and other features available in the entry-level
Odyssey, the Odyssey EX makes a series of upgrades.
Interior Features
Each Honda Odyssey Minivan is equipped with standard fare such
as a revised column gear shifter for greater ease of use, a new steering
wheel with increased comfort and a slightly thicker design, and revised
horn controls with extended sensor pad positioning. The front seats now
offer more deeply bolstered support, and new fabric patterns are used
on all models.
In addition to the array of storage compartments and pockets, the Odyssey
is built with second row grab rails mounted near the side of the roof
with built-in hooks for hangers. Large cup holders line the sides of the
second row seats. These second row seats slide together bench-style, and
the cargo space behind the third row seats has been enhanced with eight
bag hooks behind the seat cushion and a hammock-style cargo net.
The
Odyssey EX model offers available genuine leather upholstery and interior
trim, with electronically heated front seats. Also available as an option
is a Honda DVD entertainment system with factory-installed integrated
DVD system that includes an all-new crystal clear seven-inch LCD display
that flips down from the ceiling at the push of a button. The DVD plays
CD's, radio, cassette tapes, DVD, and allows for auxiliary inputs for
video games, VCR's, and cameras.
Exterior Features
Rich new colors are offered this year to keep the look updated
- Redrock Pearl, Evergreen Pearl, and Havasu Blue Pearl. The exterior
styling has been freshened up with front-end features such as a more aggressive
new grille with two horizontal slats and a more prominent H-mark.
As well, the Odyssey wears newly-designed sixteen-inch multi-spoke wheels,
with optional aluminum alloy wheels (standard on the Odyssey EX). The
tail lights have also been revamped to headline amber-colored turn signals
for an updated appearance and improved visibility.
Performance
The Honda Odyssey Minivan is equipped with a 3.5-litre, SOHC,
six-cylinder VTEC engine that pumps out an impressive 240 horsepower and
242 lb-ft of torque. New for 2006 is the standard five-speed automatic
transmission, featuring smooth and quick gear changes with wider rations
for increased fuel economy and a sportier drive.
Safety and Security
Every Honda Odyssey Minivan boasts safety features that range
from standard side impact air bags to new driver depowered air bag, and
a passenger depowered air bag with cut-off switch. The Odyssey is also
equipped with four-wheel disc brakes with ABS, three-point seatbelts at
outboard passengers' positions, child safety locks in the rear seating
area, and child seat tethers and anchors. The vehicle is designed with
crumple zones and side impact door beams.
