2008 Chevrolet Impala

The Impala has impressed buyers so much over the years that Chevrolet had to reorganize its production schedule. Crafted at Chevy's award-winning Oshawa No. 1 Car Assembly Plant in Ontario, Canada, the Impala has ranked in the Top 10 in U.S. passenger-car sales for the past four years. To keep up with this demand, GM recently added a third shift of production.

They may have to continue working overtime, especially with the new 2008 Chevrolet Impala SS. This Super Sport version of the Impala was first seen back in 1961. As its name suggests, it is a beefed up, highlighted Impala that cranks out the power and catches the eye with its style.

Available Models
The 2008 Chevrolet Impala is available in a base trim, an LS trim and the new SS model.

Interior Features
Chevy likes to say that the Impala is a mid-size car with a large car's roominess. The base four-door sedan seats six passengers and offers 18.6 cubic feet of trunk space.

The 2008 Chevrolet Impala gets a new set of seats with contemporary styling upgrades. New sport leather is available with 40/40 bucket seats with a console. The heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system also receives improvements on airflow and the control head receives a contemporary redesign.

The new SS displays its racing inspiration with a six-gauge instrument cluster and special "SS" badging.

Exterior Features
On the outside, the new 2008 Chevrolet Impala SS strives to set itself apart as well. It comes only in black with a monochromatic theme and features color-keyed bodyside moldings, "SS" badging, unique decklid spoiler and lowered front fascia with integrated fog lamps.

Performance
Base models come with a 3.4-liter V6 with 180 horsepower and 205 lb-ft of torque. Standard on LS models and optional with the base trim is a 3.8-liter Series II V6 with 200 horsepower and 225 lb-ft of torque.

The SS leaves the other two in the dust with a supercharged Series II V6 with 240 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque. All of the engines are mated to a smooth 4-speed automatic transmission.

The 2008 Chevrolet Impala SS has stiffened spring rates and suspension enhancements in both the front and rear end for better handling ability. 17-inch diamond-cut cast aluminum wheels let the SS take tight corners at high speeds.

There are more than 100 safety and security features with the Impala. Standard features on Impala LS include remote keyless entry, traction control, a tire inflation monitoring system, antilock brakes and an available driver's side-impact air bag.
