2008 Pontiac Grand Am GT

Pontiac's reputation of being a manufacturer that pumps out drivers' cars is driven home with the GT half of the 2008 Grand Am lineup. GT models consist of all the two-door coupes on the lot, plus a couple of high-end sedans well.

There are many factors that have contributed to the Grand Am's success over the years, but much of it has to do with the sporty package that is perpetually offered. Though both safe and comfortable, these models are primarily known to be very driver-responsive. For 2008, this tradition continues, as all models use a hydroformed chassis and have rack-and-pinion steering and performance tuned suspensions.

Available Models
The GT class of the 2008 Pontiac Grand Am is broken down into two trim levels: GT and GT1. SE models are covered in a separate review.

Interior Features
Four-door sedans seat five passengers and offer a cargo volume of 14.6 cubic feet. Coupes, though they have only two doors, have the exact same ability.

Inside, GT models have standard bucket seats with lateral support for tight turns, plus a crisp Monsoon sound system. In addition, GT models also have a sunroof and steering wheel controls. The Grand Am got its reputation as a driver's car for a reason.

There are a host of options to choose from as well, ranging from leather upholstery to satellite radio. Many deal with exterior add-ons, but there are a few interior tweekings that can be made to the GT family of Grand Ams.

Exterior Features
The Grand Am sports the familiar Pontiac grille with pride. It has a smooth, aerodynamic frame that cuts down air drag at high speeds. For 2008, there's also an SC/T package for GT owners. It consists of a composite performance hood and aero wing spoiler.

Performance
The sole engine for 2008 Pontiac Grand Am GT models is a capable 3.4-liter V6 with Ram Air, cold-air induction and lower-restriction exhaust. It enables GTs to produce up to 175 horsepower at 4800 rpm and 205 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm.

4-speed automatic transmission takes care of all the shifting. The 2008 Grand Am mounts power rack-and-pinion steering on a sturdy hydroformed chassis, which centers the vehicle nicely and results in its trademark responsiveness.

Safety and Security
The standard safety package of GT models includes such items as dual front airbags, sport suspension, daytime running lights and antilock 4-wheel disc brakes.
