2008 Toyota 4Runner

The 4Runner is the first model in the huge Toyota family, if you're going alphabetically. It is not the first in terms of luxury or price, but that doesn't mean a thing. It is solid, rugged, safe and durable. What more do you want from a value-laden SUV?

The 2008 Toyota 4Runner is one of two sport utility vehicles in the midsize segment. The other is the Highlander. However, unlike Highlanders, 4Runners use a truck-based platform, meaning they are the more sturdy and adventure-ready of the two.

So get in and see what one can do for you today.

Available Models
The 2008 Toyota 4Runner is offered in three models: SR5, Sport and Limited.

Interior Features
The 2008 Toyota 4Runner is pretty spacious on the inside. Standard seating is for five. This year, Toyota offers a newly optional third-row seat. It comes with an available rear-seat audio system.

The standard level of comfort with the 2008 4Runner is probably enough to satisfy most everyone. Included are air conditioning with automatic climate control, cruise control, power mirrors, windows (including tailgate window) and door locks, remote keyless entry and an AM/FM/cassette/CD player.

New this year is an optional rearview TV camera. It comes as part of a package that includes a navigation system and a JBL sound system. The rearview TV camera is activated once the SUV is put in reverse.

Exterior Features
The 2008 Toyota 4Runner is designed with practicality and versatility in mind. All 2008 models have a trailer hitch, skid plates, a full-size spare tire, 265/70R16 tires and alloy wheels and fog lights.

Performance
2008 Toyota 4Runners feature a hill descent control, which is designed to maintain a slow, steady speed down steep slopes. A similar hill ascent control is standard for all models.

There are two engines offered this year. The entry-level configuration consists of a 4.0-liter V6 engine that produces 245 horsepower at 5200 rpm and 283 lb-ft of torque at 3400 rpm.

Moving up on the power scale brings you to a 4.7-liter V8 engine. It cranks out an impressive 235 horsepower at 4800 rpm and 320 lb-ft of torque at 3400 rpm.

Both engines are available with rear-wheel drive. V6s offer a 4WD system that can be left engaged on dry pavement, while V8s offer all-wheel drive. Both systems include low-range gearing.

Safety and Security
Antilock 4-wheel disc brakes and an antiskid/traction control system are standard. Front torso side airbags and head-protecting curtain side airbags are available. The curtain airbags are now designed to deploy when sensors detect an impending rollover.
